Hardwood Staircases

HARDWOOD STAIRCASES

Staircases are the perfect finish to complete your hardwood floor

The best hardwood floor for your stairs should be something that can hold up to everyday use. The hardwood stairs should also be structurally sound and visually appealing. The best choice for your home will depend on your personal sense of style and the overall nature of your home.

Staircase Treads

Often, most common stairs will use treads. This refers to the full plank of wood and rounded edge at the front of the step. When you determine if you will have treads it is important to consider if your stairs will be open or enclosed. Open staircases simply refer to a tread that has a return, or in other words, has rounded edges on the side and front

Staircase Risers

Risers are comparable to the makeup of treads. But the difference is that risers refer to installation on the vertical portion of the stairs. In some cases for aesthetic design, using mismatched treads and risers can be an option.

White primed poplar board is very common because it can be painted any color to match trim or other woodwork. It is a perfect solution to allow the treads to visually pop, providing a two-tone style. Considering that risers are not a surface that will be stepped on, they will last a long time.

Staircase Noses

The transition molding at the front of each step is an important piece of the staircase. With hardwood flooring where there is a transition into a downstairs, the final rounded plank is called the stair nose. This curved molding is also called a bullnose.
